This weeks episode is with Jonathan. Jonathan is the CEO of Stylecrate – a business that is trying to incorporate sustainability and the circular economy into the fashion industry. Jonathan tells us about his inspiration for Stylecrate, he defines what he believes to be the issues of fast fashion and he talks to me about what it is like to be in charge of your own business at the young age of 22.

This young company is not exactly aimed at my clients, however I cannot resist a good news story! Although I am vaguely aware of the new subscription and rental ideas now available this isn’t an area I have explored before. Instantly I was curious when an old family friend began telling me about a young man who was setting up a sustainable menswear brand.

“Fashion produces more carbon emissions than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. 20% of global wastewater comes from textile production. More than three-fifths of clothing ends up in incinerators or landfill within a year of being produced.” – Jonathan provides his perspective about his big bold idea to counter the staggering facts disrupting  the fashion industry.

“Stylecrate allows you to refresh your wardrobe every month without it overflowing. People wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time. This means that 80% of clothing is just lying around, unused at the back of a closet. By removing the commitment of ownership, Stylecrate can get the right clothes to the right people and reduce the number of garments that are thrown away each year.”
